My husband & I just spent an amazing weekend in Mexico. We are involved with a non-profit organization called the Frances Kitchen Project. One of the organization’s projects each year is to provide a community Christmas party in the town of Colonet, which is 160 miles south of the border with San Diego. We play carnival type games and make crafts with the children, serve a hot turkey meal for the residents of the community and of course, Santa delivers lots of TOYS. This year we served over 500 meals and handed out more than 400 toys to the children of this impoverished town. At the end of the day we had some toys left so we drove out to a migrant camp a few miles away and gave them to the children there. The smiles on the faces of the children are priceless, and each year I’m so glad that we went and thankful for the opportunity to share the joy of Christmas with others. The Frances Kitchen Project is in the final construction phase of a domestic violence shelter near Vicente Guerrero. Once completed, it will provide a safe, temporary home for women and their children. The will have access to psychological counseling, legal help and occupational training. As FKP looks ahead to what the future holds, one of the possible projects is building a real kitchen at the migrant camp that we visited on this trip. We are waiting and praying for the Lord’s direction.
